Okay, well maybe not the biggest in History, but definitely the “Big One” for Phinneywood. There will be over 80 participating venues including food, drink and art showcases. Check out the list here and make a plan to attend.

Ludlow will be featuring a pair of amazing artists from Bainbridge Island that do amazing work. Husband and Wife team collaborating and creating very unique, organic and special items. Read more about Myorian below:

Myorian Studio is a double high, soft serve, swirl, of ideas and works from artists Dave Myers and Kelly Asadorian. Dave works in metal, handcut and graphic, to represent the composition and linear backbone of their collaborative works. Kelly works with kiln formed glass. The materials radiance and color is shaped to represent the uncovered essence and visual weight of the work. Making works together has always made sense to us. Our ideas come from our everyday surroundings. We have a beach and the woods and a garden that provides much of the content of our images. We also now share the great fortune of having 10 years of experiences together. We have seen, shared and talked through a lot of ideas together as well as produced a large body of work. The pieces in the studio now are carrying on that conversation, with a playful confidence, knowing that we are working off of each other’s intuitions.

I am in love with photography.
My photographs tend to be uncluttered and sometimes starkly simple. and have
often been described as painterly. I print on canvas and a very fine textured
French cold pressed watercolor paper. Coming in close with my camera isolates
and tells what I think is a truer story. Light, form and shadow amaze me.

I trained at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and was, in my early
years, a medical photographer in a teaching hospital. The technical training
I received there was unlike any I ever received in art school. Because
photographing sick people is both difficult and sad, I pursued beauty to help
make up for the things that I photographed day to day. My fine art work has
been sold through designers and is in private collections across the United
States, Canada and France. I also have been published in National Geographic
Travel Magazine.

I plan to continue learning to the very last of my days. Photography is such
an exciting field and the new tools that have been developed for Digital
Photographers has opened whole new worlds for creating.

Recently, I have been photographing things that are considered vintage. I get a
kick out of using a state of the art digital camera to capture the beauty and patina
of chipped, rusty and just plain beautiful old buildings and other things I come
across in my travels.

These images are all from France.

Here is a bit about Mark in his own words:

The human face has always been a constant source of inspiration to me. Just a pretty face is not what makes me
want to paint. I am fascinated by the cultural, emotional or the unusual in people and what they can offer. It is my
goal to reveal more than just what you see on the surface.

After painting people for so many years I have always viewed my subject as a painting within a painting. The skin,
eyes and expression are truly a window to the soul and I am very conscious of how I portray that. I have realized
that as people we are in a constant state of transformation in our lives and I felt it important to make that a vital
element in my work. The story I tell is about change, growth or even decay, depending on how you look at it.

The expression is my first priority when I approach a painting. Whether it is a calm, intense gaze or an emotional
outburst, I cannot have the traditional posture. I must have life being revealed. The end result is bold, and it all
must work together beautifully.

My style of painting has loosened considerably over the years and is currently very drippy with many layers of thin
acrylic paint. There is an element of losing control, allowing the paint and color to create surprises and often the
result is incredible. To further intensify the image I add layers of textile patterns across the skin. These layers are
blended into the skin as well as dimensional by cutting shapes out of additional paper and working into the portrait.

The why, what, or how I achieve what I do is still somewhat of a mystery to me. Letting go of control in my
painting has proved successful though painful at times. I know I have produced something really good when I feel
an incredible thrill of feeling something emotional, beautiful and original and not understanding how I produced it.
When the viewer can experience a fraction of this feeling that I do, then the success is a feeling that is impossible to
describe and the satisfaction is amazing.

How do I start this post? I am pretty surprised truthfully to be announcing that Ludlow Market is now going to have permanent roots in Seattle’s PhinnyWood neighborhood. These are my old stomping grounds and I am thrilled to get to be a part of the landscape there amongst such great neighbors. This has been a long haul to get to this point from VP of Sales for a BIG mom website to following my passion and seeing it fly. There will be many ups and downs and we begin designing and implementing buildout on the store, but what fun it will be. I will do my best to keep you up to speed as we trudge toward a soft opening in late February and several opening parties in March. And in case you are wondering I am planning on keeping the Ludlow Market alive on Bainbridge Island and to keep my toe firmly planted in this great pond. More to come as it is unveiled.

So, it has been a while since I updated the blog for Ludlow and things are really changing for the better. Last update was right before the Market at Seabold Community Hall and we were so happy to be a part of the vintage community on Bainbridge Island. Fast-forward 30 days and we have a successful show under our belts and a great base of customers we love serving with vintage finds. Now for some really exciting news….Ludlow will be opening in Seattle’s Phinney-Greenwood neighborhood in early 2013. The date is yet to be determined with move-outs, move-ins and renovations that need to be handled. I cannot tell you what a fun journey this has been so far and we are just at the beginning of it. For those that don’t know I have been a corporate sales, marketing and branding guy for 15 years or so and this is my great escape to follow my passion. I am greatly honored at the response I have received from the experienced vintage folks I look up to like Liz Le Dorze from Seabold Vintage Market and Stacy Grega from Oddcloth, to name a few. I am learning as I go and hopefully bringing my experience to the table to help others grow their businesses too.

In case you missed the Ludlow Market at Seabold Community Hall, please check out this great photo set from our friends at Backroads of Bainbridge. (Btw, the Market will still happen 4 x per year)

I will keep you updated on the blog here as best I can and I will be popping up here and there over the next few months as I build out the Ludlow store and concept to best serve my customers.

Thanks for a great beginning,

If you have never been to Bainbridge Island before or perhaps you haven’t been in out here in awhile I would like to provide you with a list of things to do after the Ludlow Market. Obviously Bainbridge has all the natural beauty one would expect with gorgeous beaches and parks for hiking and nature watching. But, maybe that isn’t your thing. Bainbridge has a thriving vintage community to explore and a great deal of wineries that offer tastings and tours. I would like to call out our friends at Salt & Sea and Vintage Home & Garden as must-see’s on your daytrip to the Island. Both stores have totally different collections of vintage and antiques ranging from Coastal to French and you will need to drop in and see for yourself. Dress warm on the way out so you can get on the deck of the ferry and enjoy the view as you enter Eagle Harbor and for you evening ride back as you see the lights of Seattle’s skyline. I look forward to meeting you on Saturday and enjoy your trip. Here is a ferry schedule in case you need it.

and a wonderful Wooden Folk Horse which I should have never sold!!

Can you provide us a few tips on how you like to decorate a room?

Plain and simple . . . fill it with what you truly LOVE!!

What types of things can we hope to see at Ludlow Market?

Vintage Lockers . . . Old Grainsacks . . . White Ironstone . . . Red Cross Necklaces . . .

If you had to live on a desert island with one thing, what would it be?

My family . . . LOVE the beach!!

From a design perspective, who inspires you the most?

Ralph Lauren . . . Andy Warhol . . . and Kathryn Ireland to name a few.
(American living . . . mixed with a bit of 60′s pop . . . and a French/English countryside aesthetic)
I love to take old hospital beds and have them powder-coated with a new industrial finish! I am not very fond of rust – especially when you have a deep love for beautiful European linens!!
